About
I’m Caerthan, and I’m a yarnsmith and weaver living in Dyfed in West Wales.
I produce handspun yarns, blended fibre batts and woven goods. I generally work with alpaca – both huacaya and suri – but I also work with other fibres such as Wensleydale, tussah silk and local Welsh sheep breeds.
All my yarns and batts use locally-sourced fibre, other than the silks. I have a small herd of alpaca myself, and use their fibre predominantly in my yarns.
I love spinning smooth worsted style yarns, especially fine suri. I sometimes have hand-dyed yarns and batts available, however I generally prefer working with the natural colours of the fibres. I’m currently working with natural indigo, combining beautiful clear blues with the bronzes and coppers of alpaca.
I specialise in producing yarns with blended natural colour combinations. When I produce single colour yarns and batts, I carefully blend fibres from up to three other colours to give depth and luminosity to the main colour.
My inspirations come from the rural hills and forests of West Wales: its colours and moods, and its folklore, myths and legends.

Beautiful work, a true craftsman
